Information about Ellalong: The former mining village of Ellalong is now an attractive locality located 11 km south of Cessnock. Ellalong Swamp is a prominent feature of the area. Never known to have run dry the Ellalong Swamp is part of Quarrybylong Creek which flows into Congewai Creek. The mountains in the distance are the Watagans. To the south of Ellalong lies the Congewai Valley. 24 km to the south-east is Heaton Lookout and to the immediate west is Paxton which grew around Stanford Colliery. Ellalong offers fine rural accommodation.
