The Whitsundays, the long chain of continental islands that rise off the north Queensland coast, is one of our favourite holiday destinations, home to a dozen resorts with something for every tropical taste. Others revel in the barefoot, back-to-nature flavours of their pristine surroundings. Some have a vast menu of activities that focuses on the islands' proximity to the coral wonderland of the Great Barrier Reef, while others prize their tranquility and isolation.
