Information about Penola: Penola is an historic town in the Coonawarra wine district which has produced excellent red wines for the past century. Along the 7-km road from Penola to Coonawarra there are 21 wineries. Penola also has a number of interesting historic buildings such as the Royal Oak Hotel (1873), the cottages of Petticoat Lane, particularly Sharam Cottage (1850), which is the oldest extant cottage in the town, the McAdam Slab Hut (1850s) and Yallum Park (1878-80).
