Soaring Coastal Sculpture
TABLE CAPE – THE WINGED HOUSE
Tasmania's newest escape nest for lovers, The Winged House, is an art and architectural experience cantilevered over stunning rugged coast at Table Cape in the island's north west.
With architecture by Richard Goodwin, The Winged House has won the Australian Steel Institute 2008 awards for design, creativity and innovation.
“To get to The Winged House, you drop off Tollymore Road, leaving behind the striped tulip fields of Table Cape. Your first view is of a plane or bird —– or maybe a giant silver moth – perched half way down the precipitous slope and poised to take off. Then you enter and are suspended, not just by the grandeur of the view beneath your feet, but by this moment of arrested flight. You are inside this bird/plane and you feel you really could take off and soar, out over the cliffs, above the sun-polished sea”.
With gourmet kitchen, Japanese bath, finest quality bedding, broadband internet, a library of books, DVDs and CDs, the house is fully serviced with complimentary Tassie wines, olive oil, jams, cheeses and breakfast victuals.
There are also vital support services from recommended Wynyard locals including dial-a-cray, dial-a-massage and dial-a-chef.
The north west of Tasmania is home to nature in its unspoilt glory: explore Rocky Cape or Cradle Mountain National Parks, World Heritage wilderness experiences, Cape Grim, Stanley, the wild West Coast, Dismal Swamp and the Tarkine, vineyards and wineries, golf, fishing and kayaking.
The Winged House is easily accessible from the mainland, just 10 minutes from Burnie-Wynyard regional airport which is serviced daily from Tullamarine, Melbourne.
