Sunshine Capital

The state capital of Queensland is blessed with a warm, sub-tropical climate, tree-lined streets, riverside walks and outdoor restaurants and cafes. There's a sense of scale in Brisbane that visitors don't find in larger capital cities. Brisbane is relaxed but can also be buttoned-down and business-like whenever the need arises.

The fastest-growing city in Australia has had a growth spurt in all areas with new buildings rising almost daily. Visitors and newly-arrived residents alike are joining the crowds at such favourite destinations as the Eagle Street Pier, South Bank, Roma Street Parkland and Fortitude Valley.

Brisbane has effortlessly handled such high profile events as the 1982 Commonwealth Games, the 1988 World Expo and a number of what would generally be considered city-busting world congresses such as the recent 2003 Rotary World Convention which attracted some 25,000 delegates.

This places Brisbane at a great marketing advantage for larger groups, with 12,000 hotel rooms in the city, more than three-quarters of which are within 10 minutes of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. Brisbane Airport, located just 20 minutes from the CBD, directly services 26 international and 30 domestic destinations.

Brisbane's Queen Street Mall is the shopping heart of the city while Fortitude Valley has developed as a slightly bohemian haven with its borders carrying over into the city's Chinatown. The sub-tropical atmosphere and lush parks and gardens always close by make Brisbane easily accessible no matter what the visitor's inclinations.
