In 1856, it was settled by 194 Pitcairn Islanders, descendents of the mutineers of the HMS Bounty and their Tahitian companions.
Norfolk Island is perfect for small- to medium-sized conferences. The Colonial of Norfolk is the Island's largest dedicated conference venue. There are three meeting rooms, including the Sirius which can host up to 160 people theatre-style or 140 for banquets.
Norfolk Island is free of taxes and duties, which makes it a shopping haven. There are more than 70 specialist shops selling a wide variety of products. The unit of exchange is the Australian dollar.
