Located less than two hours' drive from Melbourne, the award-winning 4.5-star Cumberland Lorne Resort has recently emerged from a multi-million dollar refurbishment. Every aspect of the Resort has been rejuvenated, including the conference centre facilities, reception, pool area, health club and all 99 apartments. Carried out in stages to minimise disruptions, the refurbishments are the first in a decade and are aimed at maintaining the Cumberland's unique position as a corporate meetings venue. Built in 1989, the Cumberland Lorne Resort has the distinction of having the largest purpose-built conference centre outside Melbourne. The Auditorium has tiered seating for 350 people while the Loutitt Bay Room, the largest of the venues, can accommodate up to 400 delegates or 250 for banquets. The Loutitt Bay Room also divides into three smaller areas. Stars Of The Surf CoastThe Erskine On The Beach, set on a five hectare beachfront site, has also undergone an extensive refurbishment. In late 2002, 120 resort-style guestrooms and suites were unveiled. Complementing the heritage-listed Erskine House, the 4-star rooms include self-contained kitchens, dining and living areas, private balconies, spas and security access. The Erskine's 12 conferences were refurbished last year, a project that encompassed recarpeting and repainting, as well as expanding the capacity of a number of the rooms, providing voice and data line connections and upgraded air conditioning, lighting and sound-proofing. Currently, the Erskine on the Beach has 198 guestrooms and suites. This year, an additional 128 resort guestrooms and suites will be added as well as a 600 square metre purpose-built conference centre. At the completion of works in late 2004, the Erskine on the Beach will be one of the 10 largest resorts on mainland Australia.
