Future events include the Society of Australasian Social Psychologists Annual Conference in April and the 2006 Mental Health Services Conference, expected to attract 1,500 delegates.

The Hotel Ibis Townsville is scheduled to open in November 2005, part of a major upgrade to the Transit Centre precinct. The largest hotel in the city is the Mercure Inn Townsville, with 201 rooms set on 4.5 hectares of tropical gardens and a freeform swimming pool that snakes through the resort.
