Conferencing In The Southern Highlands

Well positioned between Sydney and Canberra, the NSW Southern Highlands provides a brilliant mix of quaint historic towns, family-run vineyards and rich landscapes.

Places such as historic Berrima, Bowral, Bundanoon, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Robertson and Sutton Forest are dotted along the winding highlands’ roads, enticing visitors to stop at art exhibitions, markets and fairs. The area’s mild climate also has enormous appeal, especially in colourful spring and autumn.

There are numerous smaller boutique-style meetings venues occupying historic houses, as well as larger venues with stunning views and private golf courses.

Late last year, Kangaroo Valley Golf & Country Resort began a huge development project to improve its desirability in the meetings and conference market. Building commenced on 36 new luxury villas to complement the resort’s 27 cabins/villas, taking its capacity to more than 200 delegates or guests. Of the 36 new two and three bedroom villas, 18 will be sold and 18 will remain under the resort’s ownership. The 5 star development aims to enable the resort to participate in the corporate conference and events market more actively and competitively.

The resort also began a project to update and upgrade its conference facilities to provide a larger and more modern conference experience. The project involves the installation of digital AUSTAR TV and high-speed Internet facilities in all rooms.

The resort’s superb championship golf course continues to delight, impress and even surprise golfers and delegates alike. The 72 par 18 hole course designed by Jack Newton provides unexpected challenges and offers the perfect opportunity to loosen up and relax.

Other developments include a new entranceway, roads and a car park. The resort is positioned just two hours from both Sydney and Canberra.

REFURBISHMENT

The newly refurbished Craigieburn Resort & Conference Centre at Bowral identifies as one of the Southern Highland’s leading venues. Its stylish interiors reveal both ultra-modern decor and original artworks. Three function rooms cater for up to 200 delegates. The rooms have natural light and overlook landscaped gardens, adjoining terraces and a unique internal courtyard.

A comfortable one and a half hours drive from Sydney and two from Canberra, Craigieburn is an excellent location for corporate conferences.

Value-added incentives in conference packages include full A la carte breakfast and a three-course dinner menu for groups, with two choices from the A la carte menu. The bar terrace is popular for a barbeque, lunch or dinner, and conference delegates tend to be treated like private guests. Return business to Craigieburn attracts a five per cent discount on the total conference package.

Craigieburn has its own private nine hole golf course for guests and use is complimentary for all conference groups. Fly-fishing is a specialty activity, with expert tuition and a chance to practise on the resort’s trout-filled lake. The more adventurous can try paintballing or horse riding in the highlands, or even canoeing in Kangaroo Valley. Yoga sessions, massage and beauty therapy are popular, while other facilities include a billiards room, two tennis courts, volleyball and cricket.

Montfort’s fully licensed restaurant and bar overlooks the golf course and gardens. Siena, an exclusive conference retreat on the estate, caters for groups of up to 15 delegates. This private retreat features 15 acres of landscaped gardens, a pool and tennis court with stunning views of the Southern Highlands.

Just north of Bowral, up to 785 people can convene at the Mittagong RSL Club, with its extensive exhibition facilities and five function and conference rooms available. Delegates can stay at the 4½ star Springs Mittagong RSL Motel, which has 70 rooms, or the 3½ star Mineral Springs Motel.
