Western Australia’s isolation and natural beauty are drawcards for conference delegates, with research showing that many groups achieve strong numbers when they choose Perth for their meeting.

Set on the banks of the Swan River, Perth offers all the facilities expected of a capital city, with easy access to a range of different and exciting regions for pre and post touring.

Whether it’s to the wineries of Margaret River to the south or Swan Valley to the north, or slightly further afield to the amazing Benedictine monastery town of New Norcia, or the beaches along the coastline, Perth can offer much to delegates seeking something special.

Expanded opportunities for convention business in recent years have resulted in a marked increase in international conventions secured by Western Australia in the past 12 months, according to Perth Convention Bureau managing director, Anne-Maree Ferguson.

“Perth is now much more competitive as a destination and this is reflected in the bureau’s sales results,” she says. “During the year, the bureau was successful in securing 31 international conventions, representing an estimated 16,645 delegates, 74,500 hotel room nights and a direct delegate spend of $29.4 million.

“In delegate numbers, this represents a 72 per cent increase over the previous year’s 9,625 delegates and is an excellent result in what is a highly competitive global marketplace,” Ferguson says.

Among Perth’s major venues is the Perth Concert Hall, which seats 1,729 guests and is becoming increasingly popular as a unique option for national conventions and exhibitions, award ceremonies and gala dinners. The concert hall auditorium can be constructed into a three-tiered gala ballroom to seat 300.

The concert hall’s central location, next to the Duxton Hotel Perth’s 5 star accommodation and break-out rooms, gives easy accommodation, transport and parking options. Together, the Duxton and Concert Hall provide event organisers with a versatile combination for a unique experience.

At Sheraton Perth Hotel, the focus is on weddings. Two ballrooms are available – the Grand River Ballroom and the Golden Ballroom.

The Grand River Ballroom has floor-to-ceiling windows and four metre high ceilings set above the pool deck, with panoramic views over the Swan River. A foyer adjoining the ballroom is perfect for pre-dinner drinks and canapés and can accommodate up to 280 guests.

The glamorous Golden Ballroom has distinctive lighting features and modern decor. Catering for up to 400 guests, this room can also be divided into three sections for smaller weddings.

An in-house wedding planner can take care of floral arrangements, photographers, wedding cakes and entertainment. Overnight accommodation, including breakfast, is included for the bridal couple and discounted accommodation packages are available for guests.

The vibrant port city of Fremantle is famous for its colonial architecture, cosmopolitan lifestyle, outdoor cafes, markets, cinemas, museums and great weather. It has many attractions, including the spectacular Western Australian Maritime Museum and the convict-built Fremantle Prison.

The 4 star International Esplanade Hotel Fremantle has 300 recently refurbished guestrooms and suites. Only 30 minutes from the international and domestic airports and 20 minutes from Perth’s CBD, it is within easy walking distance from all Fremantle attractions.

The hotel is the Perth region’s third largest convention centre, and features the latest state-of-the-art facilities in four meetings rooms. The largest is the 800 square metre pillarless Gala Ballroom, with six metre high ceilings, which can accommodate 1,000 delegates theatre style or 660 banquet style.
