The Whitsundays Way

The Whitsundays region offers convention planners a difficult dilemma, with quality island resorts or mainland accommodation to choose from.

Airlie Beach, the laid-back capital of the Whitsundays, is the jumping-off point for visitors who want to either trip off to the islands or head for the golf courses, such as the 18 hole championship Turtle Point.

Since Captain Cook first discovered this lovely part of the world, it has been a magnet for those seeking tropical warmth. The Whitsundays is home to 74 idyllic islands scattered throughout the turquoise waters of the Coral Sea. Seven of the islands have resorts catering for everything from family to romantic holidays, and many others are national parks.

Whether you are based on an island or in Airlie Beach, the range of activities and day tours available for conference delegates is enormous. For many, sailing is the attraction, whether it’s by crewed charter or discovering the mysteries of bareboating.

Dozens of restaurants line Airlie Beach’s Shute Harbour Road, which has become an “eat street” in its own right.

Conference venues include Laguna Whitsundays Resort, set on 6,000 acres of bushland on the Whitsunday Coast, with 70 spacious villas and all the facilities of a 5 star resort.
