For more than a century, the Blue Mountains have captivated visitors eager to escape the hustle and bustle of Sydney. The clear mountain air, sharp and bracing in winter and mild with the smell of eucalypts in summer, has a way of focusing the mind and relaxing stress. An easy one-hour drive west of the Sydney CBD, the Blue Mountains is a collection of 26 towns and villages strung along 110 kilometres of escarpment atop the Great Dividing Range. In the early days of the New South Wales colony, the mountains were considered an impenetrable barrier and it wasn’t until 1813 that a group of explorers managed to find a way over and across the Range.
By the late nineteenth century, the Blue Mountains were well established as a premier destination for holidaymakers, affording an outstanding proximity to nature at its most dramatic.
The natural attractions of the region provide a great range of things to do and teambuilding exercises are particularly popular. Abseiling, bushwalking, orienteering, horse riding, 4WD expeditions and the like are just some of the options available.
Rarefied pleasures
Katoomba is the centre of the region and has a number of historic hotels and guesthouses that have been sensitively restored and now serve as excellent venues for conferences and meetings. Newer properties, including Doherty Leura Gardens Resort overlooking the Leura Golf Course, provide state-of-the-art facilities and outstanding service.
Although it might be considered that being in such a natural wonderland might rob delegates of their creature comforts, this is certainly not the case. Numerous award-winning restaurants and cafes cater for the most sophisticated palates. The Blue Mountains is truly a destination for the most demanding clientele
