Forecasting Success
Queensland’s capital is ready, willing and more than able to satisfy every delegate’s demands
Brisbane, Australia’s sunshine capital, has more sunny days than Miami. It’s a statement that may surprise convention delegates, but leave them basking in the good fortune of conducting their business in one of the country’s favourite cities. There are many good reasons to convene in Brisbane, and the welcoming climate is just one of them.
Another is the many fine hotels and conference centres spread throughout the city. Unlike its southern counterparts, accessing various parts of the city is quick and easy – traffic is mild compared with other capitals. Delegates will find getting to and from Brisbane International Airport a breeze with the Airtrain, making the 13 kilometre journey in just 20 minutes. For getting around the city, try the CityCats and CityFerries, providing quick links for points along the Brisbane River.

In 2004/2005, Brisbane hosted 968 business meetings, drawing almost 120,000 delegates, who contributed some $155 million to the local economy. Twenty-seven convention bid wins were achieved by Brisbane Marketing’s Convention Bureau during that period. This year, high profile events have included the International Association for Dental Research (1,500 delegates), the 11th International Congress of Human Genetics (2,500 delegates) and the International Education Forum (1,200 delegates).
