MORNINGTON MAGIC

Long Melbourne’s darling for weekend getaways, the coastal resorts, beaches, golf and other exciting activities on the Mornington Peninsula help to make this a desirable destination for romantic weddings as well as all styles of functions and conferences.

Often described as Melbourne’s own slice of the Mediterranean only an hour’s drive from the CBD, the Mornington Peninsula & South-East Country more than lives up to its image with the Sorrento and Portsea coastline decorated with hilltop mansions, great waterfront dining and wine and gourmet trails through the heart of the region.

The Peninsula has three individual coastlines – Port Phillip Bay with its sophisticated seaside villages, water sports and adventures, the more laid-back Western Port Bay and the wild, rugged beauty of the Bass Strait coastline. In between, the hinterland is the setting for wineries, olive groves, farm gates, galleries and restaurants. The wineries on the Peninsula now offer more than 50 cellar doors with a wide variety of options to dine in the vines in the many restaurants and cafes.

Coast or country, the golf everywhere on the Mornington Peninsula & South-East Country is exceptional and there are exciting beach and bush trail rides, the opportunity to swim with dolphins and a wide range of water sports such as sea kayaking, sailing, scuba diving and fishing.

The coastal resorts of Rye, Rosebud and Dromana have safe swimming beaches, thanks to long sandbars, as well as ocean surf beaches and some the best resort golf courses nearby. The retail strip of Point Nepean Road caters for the growing residential population with shopping centres, wine bars and cafes especially in Rye.

Point Nepean, at the tip of the Peninsula, is the best-known feature of the Mornington Peninsula National Park open now after being closed to public access for more than 100 years. Now you can be among the first to explore on foot or by bike, discovering a military history dating back to the 1880s. The Cape Schanck Lighthouse is also a fascinating piece of Victoria’s history, open daily for tours.
